Book: Mahseer (Tor spp.) fishes of the world: status, challenges and opportunities for conservation
Guest Of HonoursSteve Lockett is the Executive Director of the Mahseer Trust (UK), an organisation devoted to the scientific study and conservation of Tor mahseers — the iconic freshwater fishes of Asia. His work blends research, advocacy, and education outreach, bringing global attention to threatened river ecosystems and the species that define them.
A former musician, teacher, and photojournalist, Steve now leads the distribution of The Tiger of the River, a children’s book on mahseer conservation, across India in multiple local language editions. His commitment to river literacy and community engagement has made him a familiar figure along India’s major river systems.
Steve has contributed a chapter to a forthcoming HarperCollins India tribute to Romulus Whitaker, and is currently in discussions with the publisher for his memoir Beyond Sacred, reflecting on twenty-five years spent on India’s rivers — a journey of science, culture, and conservation
