Emerging Voice

Ambika Aiyadurai is the author of Tigers Are Our Brothers: Anthropology of Wildlife Conservation in Northeast India (Oxford University Press, 2021), a landmark work that explores the lived relationships between Indigenous communities, wildlife, and forests in Arunachal Pradesh.

An Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Gandhinagar, she brings over twenty years of field experience in Northeast India to her research. Her work focuses on the social dimensions of wildlife conservation, the ethics of coexistence, and the ways marginalised communities interpret and engage with the animals and landscapes around them.

Through her scholarship and field narratives, Ambika foregrounds the complex human–animal relationships that shape conservation debates in one of India’s most biodiverse regions.
